ON-LINE Workshop « New Challenges in Polyelectrolyte Science »
16-17th June 2021

Science of charged polymers or polyelectrolytes presents a number of challenges,
despite the progress made in the field over the past 50-60 years. In this workshop we wish to
bring together the communities of polymer physics and physical chemistry, linking both
experimental and modelling (theory, simulation) approaches. Our interest lies
in bridging the atomic/molecular scale phenomena, where the chemical nature of monomers
and surrounding ions plays an important role, to larger scales where approaches based
on scaling theory are commonly used. A multi-scale description of polyelectrolyte systems,
concerning their phase behaviour as well as structural and dynamic properties, is far from
established. It deserves particular attention, in view of the ever increasing number
of polyelectrolyte systems under complex environments (at interfaces, under confinement)
or of advanced properties (stimuli-responsive systems, different types of phoretic transport).

Journée thématique « Soft Materials Under Large Deformation », en ligne, vendredi 18 juin 2021

Workshop « Soft Materials Under Large Deformation »

With the support of the research network « SLAMM », we are delighted to organize a 1-day online workshop entitled « Large deformations ». This interdisciplinary event aims to discuss soft materials, from colloidal gels to polymer solutions, under large deformations emphasizing applications in food science and process engineering. The workshop will cover a broad range of topics, including extensional flows of viscoelastic liquids, tribological performance of polymer networks, brittle failure of polymer gels, and ductile yielding of soft glasses. More generally, we are looking forward to contributions that showcase large deformations in industrial processing, material characterization, oral and digestive processes, and fundamental approaches to understanding these phenomena or innovative methods to study them.

This workshop will take place on Friday, June 18th 2021, and will be structured around two keynote lectures from Pr. Anwesha Sarkar (School of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Leeds, UK) and Pr. Jan Vermant (Department of Materials, ETH Zürich, Switzerland). Looking forward to seeing you there!
