Summer school on soft matter and food science – Cargese, Corsica, France – July 23 – Aug 2, 2024

Dear all,

We are delighted to announce a summer school on soft matter and food science to be held in the summer of 2024 from July 23rd to August 2nd at the Institut des Etudes Scientifiques (IES) in Cargèse, Corsica (France).

The school will offer a series of introductory lectures on Soft Matter covering the key building blocks, i.e., polymers and colloids, which can be used to formulate dispersions, gels, composites, and soft glassy materials. Thanks to contributions from leading experts in the field, the summer school will provide the basics of structural & mechanical characterization, and multiscale modeling, from MD simulations, to continuum mechanics.

Moreover, the school will also include a series of more advanced classes focusing on food-related topics, e.g., products composed of proteins, polysaccharides and fat, and tackle textural attributes of food as well as related industrial processes.

Practical information, including the list of speakers, registration fees, lodging info can be found on the following website : https://softfood.sciencesconf.org/

Registration are opened to all, but limited to 76 participants, so do not wait, sign up and join us!

Looking forward to seeing you in Cargèse,

 The organizing Committee

Dear Colleagues,

Paul Scherrer institute is hosting the ‘2nd French-Swiss Meeting SANS for Soft Matter’, which is jointly organized by PSI , LLB and 2FDN the will take place on the 24th and 25th of January 2024 at the PSI Auditorium building( https://indico.psi.ch/event/14807/).

Abstract submission deadline: 24th November 2023.

The registration fee is 50 Euros for students and 100 Euros for all senior attendees. The deadline for registration is the 8st of December 2023.

The workshop aims to bring together researchers using SANS in the fields of Soft Matter and Biophysics (and open to other fields as well). The focus is on recent and ongoing work in the fields of polymers, colloids, surfactants, gels, foams, and proteins and on applications of soft matter in food science, pharma, energy applications and other fields.

We look forward to seeing you in January 2024 at PSI!

« Liquid to solid foams » workshop, December 18th, Paris (MSC lab)

Dear colleagues,

Together with the GDR SoPhy, we organise a 1-day workshop about Liquid to solid foams on Monday 18th of December 2023 in Paris (MSC lab).

Foams are made of liquid or solid containing gas bubbles. Liquid foams comprise many liquid-gas interfaces, so their structure and dynamics are ruled by liquid surface tension. Solid foams are porous materials used for properties like their lightness, their low thermal conductivity or their permeability. Solid foams are generally elaborated from liquid foams that solidify, and the intermediate solidifying foams have specific properties -structure, ageing, mechanical and rheological properties, etc.- ruled both by surface tension and bulk elasticity.  The objective of this workshop is to better understand them and therefore to gather scientists from both liquid and solid foam communities.

We invite you to register, and to propose a short presentation title if you wish, before November 7th on the workshop website:
